Adrien-Arnaud de Gachassin , born in 1497 and deceased in 1569, sometimes (the name is written Gachissan , Gachissin , Gaichaissin , Gachachan etc…) first lord of the noble Abbey of Orthez of this family, with the title of Viscount, by letters patent of Jeanne d' Albret was the son of Arnaudet de Gachassin, lord of Mencor to the States of Béarn, lawyer at the Parliament of Navarre, which fought in Castille under the orders of Henri d' Albret, and of Marie Bescat. He married on October 30th, 1525 with the place known as of Sère, in Armagnac, Jeanne d' Asprémont, legitimated girl of Pierre d' Asprémont, knight, lord of Montreal, baron de Sorde, adviser of State, whose house went down from the former dukes of Gascogne.

Here content of these letters patent: (preserved at the Files of the Low Pyrenees - B.670 - F. 253.8595), “ the Abbey House of Orthez as well as other Funds sitted as well in the aforementioned city as with the Soil of Castebarbes, were set up out of Noble Ground in favor of Adrien-Arnaud de Gachassin, captain of the Militia of Albret, wire legitimate of Arnaudet and Marie Bescat of the country of Armagnac, husband of Jeanne d' Asprémont girl legitimized of the Lord of Montreal, Conseiller of State in our Parliament of Navarre, in reward of its services under the orders of Bernard d' Arros, Lieutenant Général of our Kingdom of Navarre and Souveraineté of Béarn.

Marriage and Descent

Adrien-Arnaud de Gachassin and Jeanne d' Asprémont had as children:

1) Paul-Antoine de Gachassin d' Asprémont , born with Orthez on May 4th, 1528. Knight of the Royal, allowed Order in the States of Béarn for the seigniory of Mencor, was qualified Viscount. He was lawyer jurisconsult at the Parliament of Navarre and died on January 30th, 1600. He married with Pau, Esther de Gontaut , puînée girl of Arnaud de Gontaut, lord of St Geniuses, Lieutenant-General of the Béarn and Jeanne de Foix.

2) Marguerite de Gachassin , which married with Orthez on January 14th, 1548, Bernadou de Sorbet lord of Montaigne and Esteben, vice-president of the Parliament of Navarre.

3) Jean de Gachassin , born with Orthez in 1533, married in 1583, Marguerite of Fite , girl of the Viscount of Goussencourt, lord of Maria, Public prosecutor of Parliament of Navarre.

4) Jeanne of Gachassin , born with Orthez towards 1535, married with Pau, Antoine of Astarac of Fontrailles , captain with regiment of Guards of Navarre, nephew of count of Astarac of Fontrailles, Large Seneshal of Armagnac, whose house was allied at the House of Foix by the marriage of Marthe d' Astarac, who with Orthez in 1493, married Gaston III of Foix-Candale, wire puîné of Catherine, Reine of Navarre and Jean d' Albret.

5) Henri de Gachassin , killed with the seat of Navarrenx during the wars of religion. (Without posterity).

Adrien-Arnaud de Gachassin made gift of its beautiful residence of Orthez to Jeanne d' Albret in 1555 in exchange of the year of the ruins of the old abbey house which it had. It made there do important work into 1560 which transformed the building into the most beautiful house of Renaissance style of the town of Orthez.

This house from now on is called Maison of Jeanne d' Albret and became a rich person museum of the Protestantisme.
