Adonis (the Breton one)

Adonis is a Play of Guillaume-Gabriel Breton the published in 1569.

It was represented in 1569 front Charles IX, then, in 1577 with the Hôtel of Burgundy and in 1579 with the Collège of Boncourt. It is a tragedy in 5 acts.

Summary

  • Act I: Venus decided to make carry horns to Vulcan by loving Adonis. The “nice one” agrees not to go to the hunting, which its divine mistress fears, and proposes to continue their frolicking.
  • Act II: ulcerated to be misled, Mars decides to exert its revenge on the damoiseau.
  • Act III: two friendly hunters Adonis, Montan and Sylvain, discuss the misleading Fate and of predict. Venus disputes his/her Cupid son.
  • Act IV: Sylvain tells in Montan the death of Adonis, killed by the wild boar which it drove out.
  • Act V: Venus enumerates the beauties of his/her trespassed lover and swears to be avenged.
