Adolphe André Marie Boisse

He is born on September 16th 1810 with Rodez (Aveyron) and dies on January 18th 1896 in the same city, it is a French politician and engineer.

- Born in Rodez on September 1st, 1810 in the house Rebirth from the place from the borough (house of the Annunciation).

Engineer, director of the mines of Carmaux, appointed (1871 - 1876), senator (1876 - 1885), impassioned researcher (archeology, geology, agriculture…)

- In 1870 it publishes its main work “the Geological Draft of Aveyron” and “the Physical and Statistical Atlas of Aveyron”. These two publications were crowned by the money medal of the scientific Congress of France in 1874.

- Adolphe Boisse is installed with Bozouls, with the Castle of Colombia on the sides of Puech of Jou where its long walks led it regularly.

- Its career and its work are immense and rich:

  • Administrative and social: he develops the mines of Carmaux while having of cease to only work with the improvement of the safety of the minors.

  • Inventive: he develops a breathing apparatus (diving-suit) to make it possible to the teams of rescue to penetrate in the mines filled with unbreathable gases. He builds a boiler water pump of the steam engines with an aim of removing the explosions with the catastrophic consequences.

  • Engineer: he studies and carries out the railroad of Carmaux with Albi and traces the Rodez-Toulouse connection.
  • Agronomist: he tries out and establishes in Aveyron the technique of liming.
  • Curious

    and popularizer: member then president of the Company of the letters, sciences and arts of Aveyron, it hardly has there publications to which it does not contribute his share: archeology, meteorology, studies of meteors, questions agricultural, geology, transport, railroad.

  • Hard-working untiring, methodical spirit Adolphe Boisse carried out a considerable work and of an exceptional scale where it tackled the engineering problems, economic and the most varied scientists.
