Adolf Lüderitz
Franz Adolf Eduard Lüderitz (1834 - 1886) was commercial a German of Bremen and founder of Lüderitz, the first Ville colonial allemande of the South-western African.
Biography
Born in Bremen the July 16th 1834 in a family from merchants from Tobacco, Adolf Lüderitz lives initially with the the United States before succeeding his/her father in 1878 with the management of the family firm.In 1881, it founds a factory of tobacco with Lagos, then in 1883, makes acquire grounds and mines with Angra Pequena in African South-west by his/her friend Heinrich Vogelsang who buys them to the chief nama Joseph Frederiks II. The May 12th 1883, the flag of the Reich was planted on Angra Pequeña (Strong Vogelsang). The August 25th according to, the Atlantic coast between bay and the Orange river are sold with the company of Luderitz by tribal chiefs.
After having required the German Protectorate, Adolf Lüderitz went in the colony and the center of African South-west to explore new opportunities. It was the October 11th 1883 which Adolph Lüderitz put for the first time the feet at Angra Pequeña before joining Bethany the November 25th.
It obtained German protectorate in April 1884 and organized several forwardings then in order to make thrive these territories still badly known and to try to detect the potential mining richnesses of them. The August 7th 1884, Angra Pequeña was officially declared German.
The August 19th 1884, Adolf Lüderitz signed a mining treaty with Piet ||Haibeb of the clan of Topnaar de Scheppmannsdorf. Ludwig Koch became at that time the staff representative of Lüderitz, ready to conclude from the treaties.
In September 1884, it is August Lüderitz, the brother of Adolf, which is sent to persuade the Hereros of the Maharero chief, without success.
February 1st 1885, the " Tilly" , ship of the company of Luderitz, sank with broad of Angra Pequeña. Adolph Luderitz made bankruptcy without knowing then that it had the most fabulous reserves Diamant ifères of the territory. It is then obliged to sell all its actions with a consortium pertaining to the " Deutsche Kolonialgesellschaft für Südwest-Afrika".
Lüderitz dies drowned in the river Orange the October 22nd 1886.
The bay of Angra Pequeña was then renamed Lüderitz bucht in its honor.
