The baron (the Nile) Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld (born the November 18th 1832 with Helsinki - died the August 12th 1901 with Dalby in Sweden) was a geologist, mineralogist Finnish, known to have explored the Arctique, initially in 1872 - 1873 then in 1878 - 1879 on board the Vega , celebrates in particular for its study of the coasts of the Nova Zembla and the Siberia. It was the first, during the forwarding of 1878, to cross the Passage of the North-East. Born in Finland, he lived part of his life in exile in Sweden. He was also the uncle of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, commander-in-chief then president de Finlande of 1944 to 1946.

Its collection of charts is preserved by the Université of Helsinki, and is referred in the register Mémoires of the world of UNESCO.
