Definition

Adolescence is a phase of the human Vie of transition between the Enfance and the age Adulte. The hormonal push of adolescence causes a destabilization of the balance of the childhood which has consequences on all the field of the personality. This phase is marked by physical changes (Puberté then fine of the growth), emotional (modification of the relational life), intellectuals (comprehension of the life and its life) and psychic (identity research, progressive acquisition of autonomy).

In the mankind, adolescence corresponds to a biological characteristic. As at the majority of the animal species the vertebrate ones, the growth of the individual is not finished before the startup a reproduction. The teenager is very different from the children of 6-12 years.

These two functions are consuming energy. At the mankind, the reproduction is possible before the end of the growth, which induces a strong consumption of energy, and often a great feeling of tiredness at this age.

With adolescence the intimacy has a great importance for the " ados". It is important because it allows it this to create their own world.

This tiredness teenager is thus of origin biological, and does not have to be perceived like Paresse.

The word comes from the Latin verb adolescere which means to grow towards (AD: towards, olescere: to grow, grow) or of the name adulescens , the young man.

Adolescence is one long period in the companies where the acquisition of autonomy is late: a long schooling delaying the entry in the working life.

The ages of adolescence vary according to the culture:

  • with the the United States, it is regarded as having started at the thirteen years age, and is completed at 19 years, as in Great Britain. They are called the teenagers.
  • in the Western countries, this phase often results in conflict relations with the parents, whose authority is rejected. It also results in the frequentation of groups of “buddies” working out a common culture (music, leisures, sport for example). It is one period during which the teenager makes sometimes extreme experiments in their development, seeking to exceed the known limits. Some ignite for spirituality, the love, the experiment of sexuality or an absolute morality, others are devoted to the catch of substances having a psychic action (Tabac, alcohol, even soft and hard drugs), finally a small number can be tried by forms of criminality. Sometimes the same teenager touches with all these forms of discoveries.
  • in Africa adolescence in general does not give place to a questioning of the relations with the parents.

The passage at the adulthood can be marked by a formal ceremony in certain cultures:

  • the Jewish tradition considers the members of the community of the adults at 13 years and this transition is celebrated in the ceremony bar mitzvah,
  • According to the Islamic jurisprudance, the signs of the age of puberty, in the calendar hégirien, is 15 years among boys and 9 years in the girls.
  • With the Japan, one day ago of January devoted to the “passage at the adulthood” (or 成人式) (see the Japanese Calendrier).
  • In Africa and Latin America adolescence is often the age of initiatory rites which reinforce integration in the world of the adults.

Teenagers in France

The teenagers, or “banked-up beds”, very often pass by phases of handing-over in question. Many passes in a psychologist and others make the irrevocable one (two Suicide S “led” per day in France in this section of the population). Others still are folded back on the Cigarette, indeed a young person on four smokes regularly and since on average the 14 years age. Lastly, the emergence of Internet supported at the banked-up beds the culture of the communication and the meeting of the other, in particular via the cats and forums of many sites. Nevertheless, these means of communication are primarily based on virtual information, which adds a difference between the generation of the current teenagers and their elder, being able to accentuate incomprehension.
