Admiralty Island National Monument
Admiralty Island National Monument (national Monument of the island of admiralty) is a American national Monument located at the south-east of the state of the Alaska to the the United States on the Île of Admiralty (area Alaska Panhandle). Created on December 1st, 1978 and of a surface of 3867 km ², it belongs to the national forest Tongass National Forest. The distance of the site led the Congrès of the United States to integrate the monument (except 74 km ²) in the reserve Kootznoowoo Wilderness. The fact of being a national monument and of belonging to a reserve protects the zone best but does not allow to prevent any human activity. The park is managed by the National service of the forests in the United States of America which is an agency of the Département of the Agriculture of the United States.
The rain forest is made up of pruches west, spruces (Picea sitchensis) and of giant thujas of California. Fauna is made up of Grizzly S, of black bears, Saumon S, Baleine S, goats of rock the, and of deer tribe.
The Greens Creek Mine is a mine of money, gold, zinc and lead located at the North-West of the island within the national monument. Opened in 1989, the mine practices the acid mining Drainage which can have an effect on the ecosystem of the place.
