Administrator of the Maritime businesses

The administrators of the maritime businesses are the body of direction of the decentralized services of the Maritime businesses, which have a territorial establishment identical to the other services décontrées of the State (departments, areas).

They are Officiers of the national marine although many their functions are civil natures.

They are formed at the School of Administration of the Maritime businesses, located at Bordeaux, which has the statute of military university. Their formation alternates theoretical teaching and practical training courses in various public services and in company during three years. It also includes a loading on the Porte-hélicoptères Jeanne d' Arc.

The administrators of the maritime businesses are recruited by way of Concours, mainly in the academic world (level Bac +5, Bac +6) but also to some extent among the former flying personnel of Merchant navy (captains of 1st class), even of National marine; internal way of competition is also led to the civils servant, under conditions. The multiplicity of the sources of recruitment contributes to the originality of this body of officers.

The administrators have a general vision of the maritime problems: fishing, the commercial maritime transport, and the pleasure sailing must indeed be understood and managed so much in terms of maritime security (control, monitoring and rescue), that as regards formation, of economic accompaniment, and environmental protection and the maritime resources. Their maritime expertise and their knowledge of the local problems are very appreciated. Their role, as body of direction, in the implementation of the national measures of control which allowed the abandonment of the Community sanctions (CJCE July 12th, 2005) relating to the dispute of fish under size, is often underlined.

A greater implication of the administrators of the maritime businesses is considered within the framework of the territorial reform of the State so that their nautical and maritime experiment is development.
