The Arrondissements of Lyon are 9. They were created starting from 1852. The municipal organization is comparable with that of Paris (Marseilles functions in sectors gathering two districts): at the time of the municipal elections, each district elects its own advisers (221 on the whole). Among them, 73 train the Municipal council.
Districts
- 1st district: The Slopes of Cross-Russet-red the, the Composts.
- 2nd district: The Cordeliers, Bellecour, Ainay, Perrache and the Confluent .
- 3rd district: Prefecture, Share-God, the Villette, Montchat, Dauphine, Guillotière - Northern.
- 4th district: The plate of Cross-Russet-red the, Canary - Saint-Charles.
- 5th district: Midsummer's Day - Saint-Paul - Saint-Georges (Old Lyon), Saint-Just, Fourvière, the Point-of-Day, Ménival, Champvert, Saint-Irenee.
- 6th district: Brotteaux, Bellecombe, the Head of Gold.
- 7th district: Guillotière - Southern, the Fly, Jean-Macé, Gerland.
- 8th district: Monplaisir, Bachut, Mermoz, the United States, the Large Hole, the Windmill, Laënnec.
- 9th district: Vaise, Industry, Champvert, Throat of Wolf, Duchère, Rochecardon, Saint-Rambert - Island-Bores.

Communes annexed to the city
- In 1852, three “suburbs of Lyon” and a village were attached to the city:
- the plate of Cross-Russet-red the, left southern the old commune Cook-The-Cross-Russet-red (current 4th district).
- Guillotière, extending on the current ones 3rd, 6th, and 7th districts.
- Vaise (left southern current the 9th district)
- the village of Monplaisir, left western current the 8th district.
- In 1963:
- Saint-Rambert-the Island-Bores (left northern the 9th district).
Intercommunality

The town of Lyon joined 56 other communes of its periphery within a Urban community, the Grand Lyon, created in 1969. With its 1.217.583 inhabitants (in 2007), Large Lyon is the inter-commune grouping more populated France.
Cantons
At the assembly of the General advice of the the Rhone, Lyon accounts for 14 of the 54 seats since the last cantonal cutting of February 2000. The limits of cantons are included in the districts:- the Canton of Lyon-I is formed of the 2nd district (27 977 inhabitants)
