Adi Shamir

Adi Shamir is a Cryptologue and professor at the department of mathematics applied of Weizmann Institute off Science since 1984, where it occupies the Borman pulpit of computer science.

Adi Shamir was born with Tel Aviv, in Israel, 1952. The cryptosystème RSA, discovered in 1978 by him even, Ron Rivest and Len Adleman, was the first to implement the concept of asymmetrical coding, whose bases were posed by Whitfield Diffie and Martin Hellman in 1976.

Biography

Adi Shamir is one of the emblematic figures of the Cryptographie and the Cryptanalyse throughout the world. It introduced and implemented the concept of division of the secrecy which proved to be a fundamental idea, used not only in practice, but also in theoretical hundreds of work. Its proposal of pseudo-random generators, founded on the inviolability of the function RSA, inspired the development of the theory of the generation of risk .

Adi Shamir is, by far, the most eminent expert in Cryptanalyse. Its greater successes, in this field, are the attacks on the cryptosystèmes based on the Problème of the backpack, which it primarily eliminated from the cryptographic landscape, and the invention of the Cryptanalyse differential, first method of attack systematic of the encryption algorithms per block.

Co-inventor of famous the Diagram of identification of the " FIAT-Shamir" , Adi Shamir thus established the practical interest of the Preuve S without transfer of information, also said " zero-knowledge" , in the context of the Authentification and the Access control. Work which it then led with its pupils on the evidence to witness indistinguable and the evidence " zero-knowledge" noninteractive are today angular stones of theoretical research in Cryptographie.

Lastly, Adi Shamir contributed decisive shares in other fields of data processing, in particular in theory of algorithmic complexity where it proved the identity of the classes of complexity IP and PSPACE. Adi Shamir belongs to a tradition of famous scientists who dedicated part of their research to the Cryptographie and achieved the important discovered ones. Let us quote among them, Girolamo Cardano and François Viète at the 16th century, John Wallis at the 17th century, Charles Wheatstone at the 19th century, and more recently, Claude Shannon and Alan Turing. -->

Studies

Shamir receives a BS in mathematics at the University of Tel Aviv in 1973 follow-up of MSc and a doctorate in data processing with the Institut Weizmann (1975-1977). Its thesis is entitled “fixed Points in the recursive programs”. After one year at the University of Warwick, he works with the Massachusetts Institute off Technology of 1977 to 1980 before turning over to the Institut Weizmann.
