Adeline Genée
Adeline Genée , born Anina Kirstina Margarete Petra Jensen with Århus, Denmark, the January 6th 1878 and deceased with Esher, Surrey, the April 23rd 1970, was a British Danseuse of Danish origin.
Biography
Adopted by her uncle Alexandre Genée, it takes his Patronyme and adopts the first name of Adelina in homage to the singer Adelina Patti.She follows studies of Danse with her uncle, ballet master to Aachen, and begins at the ten years age to Oslo. After a passage to Berlin, she interprets with Munich its first great role, Swanilda in Coppélia chorégraphiée by her uncle, works on whom she will establish her career.
Dancer applauded London of 1897 to 1907, it embarks for the the United States, then turns in Australia and New Zealand.
After having bidden its farewell with the scene in 1917, it off chairs the Royal Academy Dance hall of 1920 to 1954 and is member founder of the Camargo Society .
It was often compared with Marie Taglioni for the lightness of its dance.
It was made Dame Adeline Genée in 1950.
