Adele and pacotilleuse the is a novel of Raphaël Confiant, published in 2005.

What makes the interest of this novel, it is the richness of the expressions. The author succeeds has to use expressions little known (at least, in Metropolitan France) while remaining clear and easy to read.

Summary of the history

The action proceeds with the XIXe century. Adèle Hugo (the girl of the writer Victor Hugo) in a failing mental state left to research the man whom she loves, an English soldier. This last is in a garrison and is not worried a Adele.

A black itinerant saleswoman (a pacotilleuse ) takes under her protection the young girl. She is sincerely attached to him, while regarding her trade of pacotilleuse as a vocation. After several vexations, it brings back the young girl to her father; this one adores his/her daughter, but cannot cure it. It decides to entrust it to a lunatic asylum because it knows that after its characteristic died, its heirs will put his daughter at the street.
