Adelboden
Adelboden is a common Suisse of the Canton of Bern, located in the District of Frutigen.
Geography
Adelboden is a village of mountain located in the western part of the Bernese Oberland, at the bottom of the Engstligental, 40 km in the south-east of Thoune. The culminating point is with 3242 meters (Wildstrubel). The point low is with 1045 meters.
History
First documents mention the names of the mountain pastures of Engstligen (1232) and of Silleren (1290).The inhabitants of Adelboden built their church in 1433 not to more have to move with Frutigen where the place of worship was nearest. The frescos go back to 1443.
The first hotel (Hari im Schlegeli) was established in 1873. The first street for coaches goes back to 1884. The first ski lifts (Engstligenalp) go back to 1936.
The inhabitants lived a long time of the craft industry (sculpture, painting on wood, spinning and weaving).
Transport
One reaches Adelboden by the road and by the bus - 30 minutes -, starting from Frutigen and of its station on the line of Lötschberg (Bern - Brig) or of its road of Spiez with Kandersteg where one can put his car on the railway frequent shuttles for Were worth.
Curiosities
- the reformed church Saint-Anthony, built in 1433, has modern stained glasses of Augusto Giacometti.
Tourism
Tourism developed during the 20th century - and especially in second half - with hotel trade, the ski slopes and the construction of second home. With a certain Adelboden discretion became an important station with dominant of the season of winter. The skiable field strongly developed these last years with new ski lifts, and in particular the connections towards the station of the Lenk.Site of the skiable field
