Adelaro Tommaso Paleotti Salvadori

The count Adelaro Tommaso Paleotti Salvadori is a Médecin, a pedagog, a writer and a ornithologist Italy N, born the September 30th 1835 with Oporto San Giorgio and dead the October 9th 1923 with Turin.

He makes studies of medicine to Rome and Pisa. He takes part, in 1860, as doctor, with the battalion of Garibaldi during the second forwarding of Sicily.

He settles then in Turin and dedicates himself to the Ornithologie. He is assistant, of 1863 with 1879, of the Natural history museum of zoology of the university of Turin under the direction of Filippo de Filippi (1814-1867). Then, starting from 1879 and until its death in 1923, vice-president of this natural history museum. Under its action the ornithological collection becomes one of most important of Italy.

Specialist in the birds of the Asia, it makes appear in 1874 a Catalogo Sistimatica Degli Uccelli di Borneo and, in 1880, a delle Ornitologia della Papuasia E Molucche .

Starting from the 1890, the authorities of the British Museum entrust the realization of three ornithological catalogs to him.

It makes appear nearly 340 work during its life. He is regarded as one of the largest ornithologists of his country.

The Goat-sucker of Salvadori ( Caprimulgus pulchellus ), bird of Indonesia which it describes in 1879, bears its name.
