Adelantado
A Adelantado (literally " Avancé" in French) was a civil servant of the Couronne of Castille which, with the Bas the Middle Ages had a grant of representation and governmental on a district.
The office d´ Adelantado was reactivated and transformed at the time of discovered and the conquest of the Americas. The king of Spain granted (in a way for life or in property) to a person the title of Adelantado of the grounds which he would discover, would conquer and populate in the Indies.
One can say that, like the others Conquistador S, the candidates Adelantado undertook forwardings on their funds deprived in the hope of an economic reward, political and social of the Crown. As it was the case in Castille, the office of d´ Adelantado fell in disuse to the profit from other institutions created by the Spanish Crown to control the territory of Americas: Viceroy, Audiencia , General Capitanía , etc.
