Adel Abdessemed , born in 1971 with Constantine, Algérie is an contemporary artist. He is initially raises School of the Art schools of Algiers (until the assassination of its director by the islamist ones) then raises Beautiful arts of Lyon starting from 1995. He then remained and exposed to New York in 2001 thanks to a purse of artist. He resides at Paris.

Abdessemed uses the Vidéo, the Photographie, the Sculpture, the Dessin. It is interested in the political and cultural social limits in the Moslem and Western companies. In its vidéos, it highlights the tensions generated by the globalisation. Thus, in Pressoir make it (2002) a lemon crushed by its heel is emblematic of this pressure. In another part Mohammedkarlpolpot (1999), this made up word starting from Mahomet, Karl Marx and Pol Pot write on a torn sheet of paper, it denounces the forms of oppression related to these personalities. With the Biennale de Venise, in 2003, he films a performance where nine couples make love in a gallery. It is not the only one of these works where it brings into play the nudity of the bodies. One finds this nudity filmed with the maximum of objectivity in the vidéos Joueur of flute (1996) or Preterit (1997). When he films these bodies, that remains very modest with a strong poetic and emotional load.

Certain parts marked thanks to their force, like Habibi in 2004, sculpture of a 17 m length enormous skeleton.
