Adda

The Adda is a river Italy which runs in Lombardy, crosses the Lac of Like and is thrown in the Po (on left bank). It is by its length, 313 km, the fourth Italian river.

Geography

Adda is one of the rare female Italian rivers. It takes its source in Alpisella with: 2235 meters of altitude, in the the rhetic Alps, in the west of the collar of the Stelvio.

Adda higher traverses the Valteline on approximately 100 km before being thrown in the Lac of As of which it is the principal affluent. In the low valley of Valteline, the flow of Adda is strongly tiny room because of a hydroelectric stopping of the ENEL which diverts water in an underground gallery to restore them 11 km lower very close to the lake of Like.

Adda lower sprinkles in particular Lecco, Trezzo, Cassano d' Adda (where it enters on the punt part of the Plaine of Po), Rivolta d' Adda, Lodi and Castelnuovo Bocca d' Adda, not of junction with Po to 36 m of altitude.

Along its lower course, two natural parks were created the September 16th 1983:

  • the Northern Adda Park, which extends on 54 km, of Lecco (not where Adda leaves the lake of Like) with Truccazzano;
  • the Southern Adda Park, which extends on 60 km in the lower course from the river, of Rivolta d' Adda until its outlet in Po.

Hydrology

Its food mainly of glacial origin gives him an estival mode, with a maximum flow in June - July. Its medium flow was estimated at 186,85 m ³ /s.

History

  • Flaminius demolished the Gaulois on the edges of Adda in 223 av. J. - C.
  • Théodoric demolished there Odoacre into 490.
  • In the past, Adda marked the Frontière between the Duché of Milan and the République of Venice.
  • As for its valley, the Valteline, it was a subject of confrontation between France and the House of Austria during the Guerre Thirty Year old.
  • Under Napoleon, there was, in the Royaume of Italy, a department of Adda (Chef-lieu Sondrio), in the north of that of the Serio.
