Adapted physical-activities

The Adapted Physical-activity (APA) is the use (adaptation) physical-activities and sporting for the improvement or of the maintenance of the statute of Santé of the sick people or in situation of Handicap, in the multi-field protocols of assumption of responsibility.

She is exerted by professionals specifically trained with the techniques of the physical-activities and the methods of the adaptations necessary to the continuation of objectives of Santé.

The intervening in APA have the role to take part in the design, the control and the evaluation of prevention programs, Readjustment ou/et of Integration by the Physical-activity.

According to the National directory of Professional Certifications:

" The professional has the role to take part in the design, the control and the evaluation of programs, Readjustment and Integration by the Physical-activity Adapted near groups of people concerned with the following categories: disorders functional and metabolic, turbid sensory and driving, personality and behavioral problems, deficiencies intellectual, social Maladjustment, disorders related to ageing, chronic diseases or lethal… The professional has the role of taking part in the design, the control and the evaluation of prevention programs, follow-up and Education of Health by the Physical-activity Adapted near all public."

Formation

The speaker in APA and Santé can be graduate of one of the levels according to:

  • License APA (bac+3) (at least)
  • Control (bac+4) APA
  • Master APA (bac+5)
He follows an university course: Sciences and Technology of the Physical-activities and Sporting (STAPS) specialized in the Handicap and maladjustment and health and development.

Missions

The specificity of the APA is to establish the link between the sport, the handicap and health. The formation which the speaker receives thus takes account of these three fields.

Within the framework of his intervention with aiming of Rehabilitation, the speaker in APA is charged with:

  • to evaluate a person undergoing the effects of a handicap or a disease

  • to ensure the catch of load by the use of the APA:

    Adaptations and individualization

    The adaptations and the individualization relate to the methods of practice for the attack of objectives of health fixed:

    • choice of the most relevant activity (if possible, taken into account of the tastes of the practitioner)
    • annual planning
    • lasted and frequency of the meetings and the cycles
    • rate/rhythm in the meetings: continuous or discontinuous character of the effort, intensity, etc
