Adam Worth

Adam Worth (1844 - 1902) was a gentleman-criminal of German origin . Robert Anderson, a detective of Scotland Yard, gave him a nickname, " Napoleon of the world criminel" , and it is commonly called " Napoleon of Crime". One speculates that Arthur Conan Doyle used Worth like the prototype of the nemesis of Sherlock Holmes, the Professor Moriarty.
