Adam Stefan Sapieha

Adam Stefan Stanislaw (May 14th 1867 with Krasiczyn - July 21st 1951 with Cracow) was cardinal-prince Sapieha Polish.

Biography

Born the May 14th 1867 with the castle from Krasiczyn (Poland), a famous family of the nobility polonaise.
Ordered priest on October 1st 1893
Canon of the chapter cathedral of Lemberg (1902)
Secret chamberlain (February 23rd 1906)
Elected official bishop of Cracow (November 27th 1911, crowned the December 17th by the pope Black and white X)
Promoted metropolitan Archbishop of Cracow (October 28th 1925)
He alerted Western Europe at the time of the attack of the German army against Poland in 1939, and directed Polish resistance to Cracow against the nazisme.
Created cardinal-priest of the title of Santa-Maria-Nuova-and-Santa-Francesca-Romana (February 18th - February 22nd 1946)
It ordered to priest the young person Karol Wojtyla, future pope Jean-Paul II.
