Actors Studio

The Actors Studio is an association gathering of the Acteur S professionals, directors and Dramaturge S, located at the Old Labor Stage , 432 West 44e street with New York. Devoted to the Dramatic art, it was founded by Cheryl Crawford, Elia Kazan and Robert Lewis with New York in 1947.

History

In the beginning, Actors Studio has as a function to allow actors experienced to improve their art in the intimacy of a workshop, without the pressure of a turning. Directed starting from the method created by Stanislavski, Actors Studio knows its apogee under the direction of Lee Strasberg of 1951 with 1982. While the first writings of Stanislavski privileged a physical and psychological identification total of the actor with his character, Lee Strasberg estimates that the actor must realize his character through his emotional memory, by drawing in itself emotions and affects. This Méthode leaves a certain freedom to the actor and can give rise to plays at the same time nervous and contained, but always full with truth and sensitivity.

Being also based on a psychological research very excavated on behalf of the actor, Actors Studio becomes definitively the course of reference to the United States for the theater and the cinema, when former students like Marlon Brando, James Dean or Elizabeth Taylor meet success.

Nowadays, Actors Studio more became a method of training of the trade of actor and actor that an institution located in a place, having essaimé everywhere in the United States and even abroad. It makes figure today required passage for any American actor wishing to evolve/move in the cinema or theater world.
