Acquarossa

Acquarossa is a common Suisse of the Tessin located in the District of Blenio.

History

This commune was created on April 4th, 2004 by the fusion of the communes hitherto independent of Castro, Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco. The name of the commune in the center of the device, the station of holiday of Acquarossa, was selected like new name of commune.

Geography

Acquarossa is located in the Val Blenio, on the road of the Col of Lukmanier. The neighbouring communes are, since North in direction of the needles of a watch: Olivone, Aquila, Torre, Malvaglia and Ludiano, then Sobrio, Cavagnago, Anzonico and Faido in the District of Leventine.

Places of interest

Well with the top of Prugiasco is the Romance church San Carlo di Negrentino (until 1702: Sant' Ambrogio). It was built at the 11th Century and was increased with 12th. It has frescos Romance and gottic.

Industry

Clock and watch makers establishment, such as Adriatica in Dongio, occupy an appreciable part of the population
