Acoz
Acoz (in Walloon Åcoz ) is a section of the common Belgian of Gerpinnes, located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.
It was a common to whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
It is also the name of a river which crosses it and is thrown in the Sambre with Châtelet. On the territory of the old commune, the hamlet of Lausprelle is.
The Pirmez castle
Dismemberment of the old Carolingian field of Gerpinnes, the seigniory of Acoz belonged to the count of Namur. Acquired in 1543 by the family of Craze, it then passed to Kuiévrain in 1727, then in 1759 in Udekem (ancestors of the current princess Mathilde of Belgium). The last representative, Jacques d' Udekem, sold the property with the widow of Edouard Pirmez, on July 21st 1816. Although having undergone transformations and enlargings during the centuries, the current castle kept some old parts, dating from the 16th century. In 1865, Octave Pirmez, archeologist at his hours, explored a cemetery mérovingien of twenty-five tombs, in the wood of the castle, with the Monplaisir locality. Y were found weapons (spearhead with ailerons, Scramasaxe S [[Frank|frankly]]) and various objects of Bronze. In 1876, it discovered there a monetary treasure Roman of one hundred fifty parts contained in a Olla , with the effigies of Néron, Vespasien, Domitien, Adrien, Antonin, Faustine and Sabine.
The Tower octavienne
Square tower or vertical hermitage, frame in 1875 by the writer Octave Pirmez (1832 - 1883). It is there that he wrote Feuillées and Heures of loneliness . Rather romantic monument, without quite precise style, to locate between the strengthened keep of the 12th century and the pigeon one of the 18th century. Fallen in ruins and presenting a danger to safety from the users, it had to be demolished.
The hamlet of Lausprelle
The parish church is built out of sandstone hardcores, coming from the local careers, by the baron Leon de Dorlodot. Devoted to the worship by monseigneur Walravens, bishop of Turned, the November 7th 1912. It presents a certain architectural analogy with certain Romance sanctuaries of Auvergne, which the Namurian architect Lange takes as a starting point. It counts among its furniture a major furnace bridge and a stone stoup of the the Vosges.
Walk Saint-Roch and Saint-Frégo
It is about the one of the Marches of the Between-Sambre-and-Meuse and takes place Sunday following the August 15th.The origin of walk goes back to last century. In 1866, a epidemic of Choléra spread terror in the area and the family Scieur, very tested, had set up a small vault dedicated to Saint Roch, owner of the pestiferous ones. A few years later, towards 1870, one decided to pay homage to saint Roch and one associated Saint Frégo to him which enjoyed to him a great veneration, being the guard of the small children against the “Maladie of the square”. (Currently, one can discover in the content of the parish church of Acoz-Center, the statue of the saint decorated with a few pairs of small shoes deposited there by grateful parents.) Walk had been born and a tradition was going to be established. Each year, the appointment is given to all those which want to perpetuate this procession. Sunday at 11 a.m., the procession leaves the church of Acoz escorted by two companies. Lausprelle, exclusively dressed up as costumes of the First Empire opens the procession. It is followed company of Acoz which it is covered costumes of the Second Empire, except for the group of the young people which prefers the dress of pomegranate First Empire. The company of Acoz is accompanied by the brass band by the village. The procession makes its entry in the hamlet of Lausprelle around 1 p.m. At 3 p.m., it sets out again to attend vespers sung in the Saint-Leon church. After this office, Lausprelle joined the district of the station of Acoz for the solemn return. Around 6 p.m., the two Companies will enter the interior court of the Pirmez castle to carry out salvos there. It will be then the return in the church of Acoz where a safety will be celebrated. Monday with 9 h 30, a military mass is celebrated as well in the center as in Lausprelle. These ceremonies are followed salvos of honor and evolutions in the districts until the evening. The breaking of glass of the company of Acoz takes place last Saturday from June to 7 p.m. and Monday of Saint-Roch and Saint Frégo around 10 p.m. for the company of Lausprelle.
