Aconitine
Aconitine is a very toxic alkaloid found in several species of the Aconitum kind, mainly the aconite napel. Neurotoxine.
Intoxication
Aconitine opens the sodium channels sensitive to the Tétrodotoxine in the heart and other fabrics of the organization. The effects begin with a feeling of burn, then vomiting, giddinesses, a progressive paralysis and finally death by cardiac arrest.It is a Poison which paralyzes the nervous system. One extracts it from the sheets and the roots of the Aconit napel. 2mg is sufficient to give death. Lethal amount
The LD50 is of 0,12 mg/kg (mouse, IV) or of 5,97 mg/kg (PO). By oral way, the lethal amount at the man would vary from 2 to 5 Mg. The concentration in the roots of the aconite napel exceeds the 1%, the ingestion of a few grams is mortal.
Use
The aconite is used since centuries by Chinese traditional medicine. Aconitine is used as analgesic, anticongestif and sudorific, antirhumatismal. The plant is used as sedative for the neuralgic pains and spasmodic coughs.(On site SOMEDNAT intoxication with aconitine)
