Achtung Baby
Achtung Baby is the seventh album group of Rock Irish U2 left in 1991 and produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois.
History
At the end of the Years 1980, U2 is one of the rock groups being the most success. But, after the exit of the album Rattle and Hum (1988), U2 approaches the following decade in a typical location. That of a group with success which, after ten years of career, does not have anything any more to prove and is likely to always remake still and the same thing.
After some meetings in Dublin which did not give anything, U2 still exiles at the end of 1990 with the Hansa studios of Berlin on the blow of the falls of the wall.
The duet Lanois - Eno, already present at the production for The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree , associates Flood for the Mixage. However, Eno has other obligations during the sessions studio, which will make of Lanois the principal producer of the disc.
In April 1991, of the bands of recording of the work of the group on Achtung Baby are pirated and diffused under the coat under the name of Salome, The Achtung Baby Outtakes as from February 1992 and make it possible to become spectator of the creative process of U2. So certain projects were abandoned, many ideas present in these bands is found in the final disc.
A new departure
Critical
Achtung Baby is an album different from the precedents. U2 tries to change sound, even of musical style. As The Edge says it “ Achtung Baby is the noise of four types sawing the Joshua Tree ”.
On the 12 songs which count the album, two only are truly recorded in Berlin (the group will go back to Dublin to finish the disc to which Steve Lillywhite will join the mixing for four songs). The first individual one of the disc, the industrialist The Fly is N°1 with the the United Kingdom at its exit.
The title Until The End off The World , written for film of the German realizer Wim Wenders, Until the end of the world , will be, with One and Mysterious Ways , the title of the disc generally reinterpreted in all the rounds of the group until our days.
The song One , which tells the separation between a man and a woman and/or of a father and her son Séropositif, was born in Berlin at the time from the recording from Mysterious Ways and second individual from the disc (classified N° 9 in the USA). All the benefit of individual were transferred with the fight against the AIDS.
One was mixed and remixé several times by Eno, Flood, Lanois and the group. With wire of time, One became, the title of the most taken again U2 its discography. R.E.M. and Johnny Cash, inter alia, will take it again.
Lastly, other songs present U2 different from the preceding decade to us: the experimental Zoo Station in opening of the disc, ambient Acrobat and the ballade Coil in Blindness.
Achtung Baby rose at the head American lists and was sold to date with more than 12 million copies throughout the world.
