Achilles Runner

Achille Runner - March 26th 1870 with Pfaffenheim (Haut-Rhin) † March 20th 1940 with Morez of the the Jura - is a Compositeur French.

At the 15 years age, he refuses German nationality and leaves for Paris. He enters to the National Music school and becomes the pupil of César Franck and Charles-Marie Widor, and obtained in 1892 unanimously the price of organ of the Academy. After its military service, he is engaged as an organist of chorus to the Madeleine.

Then, it took the continuation of Augustin Chérion like Choirmaster in 1905, which him even had succeeded Gabriel Fauré.

It brought the chorus and its soloists to an artistic high level and was the organizer of very famous ceremonies.

It enriches the repertory by the sacred music of the end of the XIXe century of its compositions of a high value. Those are still interpreted nowadays.

  • a religious Walk , for trumpets, large organ, chorus and orchestra
  • the Mass of Holy Madeleine , for chorus with 3 votes, quintete of violin and toothing-stone.
  • the Messe of Holy Odile
  • a You are Petrus , for chorus with 4 votes, quintete of violins and toothing-stone.
  • a Released to me , for soloists, chorus with 3 votes and organ.
  • of the Offertoire S, the Motet S, etc

On the whole more than 30 philosopher's stones which made it possible to register the name of Achilles Runner in annals of the church of the Madeleine and the Alsatian type-setters of sacred music.
