Achilles Baraguey d\' Hilliers

Achilles, count Baraguey d' Hilliers , Marshal of France, born with Paris the September 6th 1795, dead the June 6th 1878 with Amélie-the-Baths.

He is the son of the general senator of the First Empire Louis Baraguey d' Hilliers, which was chief of staff of Custine, ordered the armed force against the insurrectionists of the Faubourg Saint-Anthony, and was distinguished, since, in all the great battles of the Empire.

He was educated with the Military National Prytanée, following that he engaged in the French Army. He took share with the Campagne of Russia in 1812. In 1813, it was used as assistance-of-camp of the marshal Marmont with the Bataille of Leipzig, where it lost his left hand. Promoted captain in 1815, it took part in the Bataille of Four-Arm. It was also used under the Restauration and the Monarchie as July. In 1823, it took part in the countryside intended to restore the Bourbon S on the throne of Spain, oùi remained until in 1825.

It was distinguished in Algérie, where it was named colonel after the capture of Algiers, in 1830. In 1834, it was named vice-governor of the school of Saint-Cyr military school. The Inhabitants of Franche-Comté named it later representing of the people to the National Assembly, and then Député of the Doubs to the Constituante and the legislative Assemblée. After the capture of Bomarsund, in 1854, Baraguey d' Hilliers accepted the stick of Marshal of France and made Senator. Lastly, it contributed to the victory of Solférino. After the war, one entrusted the command of the 5 to him {{E}} Corps with Tours.

Become Governor of Paris in 1870, its frankness made it unpopular to the eyes of the Impératrice Eugenie and Charles Cousin-Montauban, count de Palikao. Also the August 12th, it was replaced by Trochu. At the end of the War free-Prussian, Adolphe Thiers appointed it president of a board of inquiry charged to determine the causes of the French defeat. It mourrut in 1878 with Amélie-the-Baths.

Anecdote

Its legendary severity, at the time of its passage as commander of the military special School of Saint-Cyr military school, was worth the creation of a price by the pupils, the Baraguey , decreed each year with the framework less appreciated.
