Acheikh ibn Oumar

Acheikh ibn Oumar is a politician and Chadian war leader of Arab ethnos group originating in the Batha. It was made known at the end of the Seventies within the fraction of Ahmat Acyl. After the death of this one at the end of 1982, it takes the direction of the CDR. It makes party of the GUNT (directed by Goukouni Weddeye) which will fight Hissène Habré in the Eighties. CDR is at the time the main force of the GUNT. The movement is considered since Ahmat Acyl as the group more the pro-Libyan.

In 1984, tensions apparraissent with Weddeye and the Libyans and Acheikh is found captive in caves of Tibesti during more than one year.

After a reconciliation it is indicated within the GUNT minister of state with coordination, Acheikh ratifies the agreements of Cotonou (August 30th, 1985) bearing creation of the Supreme council of revolution (CSR) chaired by Goukouni Weddeye.

The reunified opposition launched a military offensive which showed a failure in February 1986. Confrontations have in August place and October 1986 within the GUNT between CDR d' Acheikh and the FAP of Weddeye from where CDR leaves victorious. The reduced GUNT, from now on is chaired by Acheikh ibn Oumar after the ousting in November 1986 of Goukouni Weddeye (hostage in Libya of October 30th, 1986 in February 1987).

Acheikh ibn Oumar marks again its distances with Tripoli and settles with Ouagadougou in April 1987, and the Libya again imposes Goukouni Weddeye, returned in grace, with the head of the GUNT in April 1988.

Acheikh begins negotiations with Habré, the majority of its men (: 2000 men) are disarmed with the Sudan in August 1988, after the agreements of Baghdad sealing peace between Acheikh and Habré in November, it joined Djamena on November 20th, 1988. 880 of its men are integrated in the Chadian national Armed forces (FANT) in January 1989 and it is named the Ministre on March 3rd, 1989 for the Foreign relations.

Foreign Minister of Habré in 1989-1990, he becomes special adviser of the president Idriss Déby (1990-1991), after this one reversed Habré. He is then ambassador of the Chad to the the United States, and High representative at the United Nations (1992-1993). He breaks then with Déby and leaves the country.

Acheikh ibn Oumar weaves bonds with the MDD, then MDJT and CNR. In November 1995 CDR joins within ANR the FNT, the FNTR, the ANT/D of the general Mahamat Garfa and the FARF.

In 1999 CDR joins the MDJT and the MDD within the CPAL and are then joined by the FNT and the WALL. The movements of the CPAL join the FDP and the FPRN within the UFC in April 2004.

Acheikh Ibn Oumar is national coordinator of the Union of the Forces of Change (UFC). The movement integrates FUC, then UFDD. Acheikh becomes number 2 and spokesperson of the UFDD ordered by Mahamat Nouri. In spring 2007, denouncing its progressive spacing, Acheikh and CDR leaves the UFDD for formed with other factions UFDD Fondamentale.
