In Chemistry, a acetate (the word comes from the Latin the acetabulum ) is a salt or a Ester of the acetic Acid . The formula of the Ion acetate is CH3COO, it is the combined base of the acetic Acide.

The acetate term can also refer to the Acetate, in particular the fibers and other derivative products such as the discs acetate used for the audio recordings. Acetate is used in many maintenance products.

Notation

The abbreviation ac or AC is sometimes used in the chemical formulas to indicate the ion acetate. For example the formula of the Acétate of sodium could be written NaAc, instead of the more modern formulas CH3COONa or NaC2H3O2. In the field of the organic chemistry, the abbreviation ac refers to the group Acétyle CH3CO, acetate is thus indicated there in the form OAc, the sodium acetate is written NaOAc and the acetate of EtOAc ethyl.
