The music being regarded in the family as something of rather traditional, Ace and its brother start to differently see the things with the popularity of the Beatles. At age the 13 years Ace begins the guitar as an autodidact, at 16 years he sees the Who in concert and decides to put himself more seriously at his instrument. In January 1973, it joined Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss to found the group KIS as a guitarist soloist. It will be finally engaged after the group auditioned an about sixty guitarist, in other (Jay Jay French of Twisted Sister, Bob Kulick of Balance, the brother of Bruce Kulick third guitarist soloist of KIS).
It will be for much in the sound identity of the group KIS of the years 1970. It is him which draws the logo of KIS and is at the origin of the make-up of the group since it will be the first to find to it his, which will be worth the nickname of " to him; Space Ace" then he will advise Paul Stanley to carry star in his right eye.
Type-setter but not singer on the first albums of the group, after a disagreement on the album (Destroyer 1976) or the producer of the disc Bob Ezrin will replace it by another guitarist whereas it is not present at the studio to ensure a solo on a song, the relations with the founding members of the group will not be the same ones never again, it will not compose anything on the following album (Rock'n'roll over 1976), and will be tested with the song on " Shock me" (Gun 1977 Coils) with can be an little idea behind the head since it will record, starting from " Shock me" , on several occasions all instruments except the battery on the songs which it will compose in the albums according to!
In 1978 Ace wishing to leave KIS, just like Peter Criss, the group decides to make four albums solos. In addition to he is the total type-setter of his album, Ace plays all the instruments on this disc, put aside the battery which is ensured by Anton Fig. Of 1979 with 1981 the musical style of KIS is directed towards the disco music, the pop one, and an album concept. In 1981 on the album " The Elder" , Ace is still confronted with a problem with Bob Ezrin which produces the disc, this last cuts some of its solos to him. In 1982 after an car accident, it is replaced for the recording of the album and the round which follows by Vinnie Vincent then Ace ended up leaving KIS before the end of the year 1983.
In 1984 It is invited to play on the title " Bump and Grind" album of Wendy O. Williams produces by Gene Simmons then in 1987 it founds its own group Frehley' S Comet. Towards the end of the year 1990 several " best of" Frehley' S Comet leave with new titles and recordings live of songs of KIS sung by Ace, as well as an album homage to Ace Frehley (Spacewalk, has salute to Ace Frehley) by the guitarists such as: Scott Ian, Gilby Clarke, Dimebag Darrel, Snake Sabo, Marty Friedman, Tracii Guns, John Norum, Bruce Bouillet, Jeff Watson, the disc includes/understands also a new of Ace with Richie Scarlet.
In 1996, it takes part in the reformation of the group original KIS. It leaves the group in 2000 and is replaced by Tommy Thayer. It takes part in the concert of support for the attacks of the September 11th, 2001.
With the the United States Ace is called the Keith Richard American and is adulated by most of the guitarists, in particular Dimebag Darrel which carried in homage a tattooing of Ace on the chest.
During its last appearance to the Honors Rock'n'roll in 2006, it was accompanied on scene by Slash, Tommy Lee, Rob Zombie, Scott Ian and Gilby Clarke to off play the piece “God Thunder” of KIS.
It currently records an album solo with Anton Fig with the battery which was already present on its album solo of 1978 as in Frehley' S Comet and Anthony Esposito with low. The exit of the album is planned for January 2008.
A little as in 1978… with the album solo Simmons Gene, " Asshole" 2004, that of Paul Stanley, " Live To Win" 2006 then that of Peter Criss, " One For All" 2007, in 2008 Ace will enclose the exit of an album solo for each founding member of KIS.
