Gameplay

Taking again the principle of the preceding episodes, Ace Fights 5: Squadron Leader is the fifth of the series Ace Combat.

The player at the time of buying 53 Plane S, of the realistic planes to the imaginary planes, while passing by prototypes. Each plane has three different paintings déblocables. On the whole 32 missions are present in the countryside mode. With the wire of the play, the player obtains a promotion and directs 3 team-members, it must then buy planes for the latter. During the preparation of a mission, the player chooses the plane of each team-member under his orders. At the time of a mission, it can give them orders, such as engaging the enemy, spreading themselves (to take distance) or to use special weapons.

The play is realistic only with half, because the capacities of the planes are largely exaggerated. The modifications more fragantes are:

  • the hairpin curves are possible at very high-speed
  • the planes can transport several times the number of Missile S which it is not possible in reality. That depends on the selected level of difficulty
  • the missiles standarts are modelled starting from air-to-air missiles, but they can be drawn all the same on targets on the ground
  • the planes accelerate and slow down extrèmement quickly
  • as in the preceding episodes, certain nations implied in the conflict have ultra-powerful military weapons, like the orbital Laser and of the massive weapons of destruction
  • the landings are unrealistic
  • in reality, the planes such as the F117 stealth fighter are not Supersonique S, but in the play all the playable planes can reach the speed of sound
