Accumulator nickel-zinc
An accumulating Nickel - Zinc (of NiZn abbreviation) is a secondary generator (refillable) Alcalin (like the NiCd and the NiMH).
General information
NiZn was from time immemorial regarded as an accumulator with the very gravitational characteristics, been dependant on its Anode of zinc (potential very negative redox, strong mass capacity, low costs, abundance of the component, not toxicity, and facilitated recycling).
However, of many attempts of development and marketing failed, because of a too weak aptitude for the cycling of the technologies then implemented.
They are fast phenomena of modifications of the structure of the electrode of zinc which are at the origin of this very short operation life.
During the discharge of the accumulator, zinc, negative active matter, are oxidized out of nonconducting zinc oxide and soluble potassium zincate in the electrolyte.
In refill, these products of oxidation are reduced out of metal zinc, which is redistributed in an irregular way in the electrode, and generates wrongly qualified anarchistic growths the “dendritic ones”, leading to the setting in Court-circuit accumulator.
This problem is completely solved today by a new technology developed in France between 1998 and 2005.
