Accra
Accra is the Capitale Ghana. C is the most populated city country (1 661.400 hab. in 2001) of which it constitutes the administrative and economic center. The principal industrial activities are: the food transformation of agricultural produce, industries of the Wood and the manufacture of plywood, the Textile , clothing and chemical industry.
The site developed starting from the forts which were built by Europeans for the draft négrière (British, Dutch and Danish) at the 17th century. In 1877, Accra replaces Cape Coast like capital of the British colony of Gold Coast (Coast of Gold). It becomes an economic center with the construction of a railway towards the mining and agricultural back-country. It remains the capital when the Ghana reaches independence, the March 6th 1957.
Accra accommodates several cultural institutions: the national museum, the Ghanaian Academy of arts and sciences, the university of Ghana and the national library.
The commission of the Defense of the Organization of African Unity is based in Accra.
Accra is the principal city in more Grande Area of Accra after the town of port, Tema. People of Ga reside at Accra, especially on the west coast of the city. Now Accra counts many different tribes such as Ashanti, Ewe and Haoussa.
