Toponymy
Old Aspa Luca , the toponym Accous /ak ' u' S appears in the forms Acos (1247), Aquos d' Aspe (1376), Abadie de Cos (1538), Sanctus Martinus de Acous (1608).
The toponym Jouers /ju ' E rs/is old a Joertz (1345), probably a Métathèse of a Basque derived Oïhartz d
The toponym Appatie' (cf Basque Aphatea ) announces a stronghold of Abbées laic ( Abadie in Gascon standard). It is noted that in Vallée of Winder the deaf Latin are preserved.
History
Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.In, one counted 74 fires there. Accous was the chief town of the valley of Winder.

Economy
The economy of the commune is primarily directed towards agriculture and the breeding. The manufacture of farm cheeses is also one of the resources of the commune.

Civil inheritance
- Houses and farms of 15th, 16th, 18th, 18th and 19th centuries, cattle sheds and baker's ovens.

- Saint Martin's day Church, 17th century, altered 18th century, restored 19th century.
- Romance Vault Saint-Saturnin de Jouers (12th century).
- Saint-Christau Vault of Aulet, remade at the 17th century near which three miraculous fountains were. Only remains principal the, known as one of the east, consisted of a medieval basin out of stone and cover. To bathe there allowed to move away the evil spells and to cure fevers, sciatic nerves and epilepsy. It was renovated.
- Vault Saint-Christophe, end 18th century, altered fine 19th century, restored at the 20th century.
- Vault Saint-Jean-Baptist, beginning 18th century, altered at the 19th century.
- Abbey about the Prémontrés.
- Accous is a stage on the Via Tolosane, name Latin of one of the four ways of France of the Pèlerinage of Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle.

- Cyprien Despourrins, born and died in Accous (1698 - 1759), is a poet Béarnais of language Occitan E and the author of famous and emblematic songs of Béarn.
