The acadian World congress is a festival of culture Acadien and Cadien, organized at every five years since 1994. It aims to gather the acadian Diaspora divided with the four corners of the world in meeting again , which give place to a series of family gatherings, conferences and spectacles which last during ten days.
Conferences, spectacles and meetings of family were with the program. The president and founder of this first congress were André Boudreau, native of Nigadoo.
One estimates the number of participants in more than 200.000 Acadian come not only from Canada, but also from the United States, of France, of Belgium, of Martinique, of Africa, of the islands Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Italy and California.
The ceremony of grand opening proceeded with the Park of the aboiteau of Cape-Peeled, on August 13rd, in the presence of Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister for the Canada, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, General secretary of UNO, Frank McKenna, Prime Minister of New Brunswick, of Alfred Siefer-Gaillardin, Ambassadeur of France in Canada, Claude Ryan, Ministre for the municipal businesses of the Quebec and Antonine Maillet, writer.
The culminating point was the national festival of Acadian on August 15th with Shediac.
In parallel was held the " Summit of the women in Acadie" , organized by the Federation of the Ladies of Acadie.
The acadian World congress of 1994 was recognized by UNESCO like an activity of the world decade of cultural development (1988-1997).
Musical, cultural and theatrical events take place with these meetings, which seek to define what is Acadian with the 21e century.
The opening ceremony will take place in the area of Lamèque - Shippagan - Miscou, whereas the activity of closing is held in the area of Tracadie-Sheila and Neguac. The culminating point of the 4th Congress, the celebration of the acadian national Festival of the August 15th will be organized with Caraquet, which organizes each year since 40 years, an important celebration which usually coincides with the fence of the acadian Festival of the place.
