Academy with regional radiation

See also: CRR

The academies with regional radiation (CRR) are French public corporations which exempt lesson in Musique, Danse and Dramatic art. Since the decree n° 2006-1248 of October 12th, 2006 published in the Official journal of October 13rd, 2006, these establishments replace the national academies of area .

There are 36 academies with regional radiation in France. They are financed by the territorial collectivities (common, departments and areas), the State (Direction of the music, the dance, the theater and the spectacles of the Ministry for the Culture) having transferred into 2006 towards the territorial collectivities the financings which it granted until there by the means of the regional managements of the cultural affairs (DRAC).

Course

The courses go from the level beginning to the improvement and are organized by cycles:

  • Year of orientation. Musical formation and choir singing. Duration: 1 to 2 years.
  • 1st cycle or preparatory cycle . Duration: 4 years.
  • 2nd cycle. Duration: 4 years.
  • 3rd cycle.
  • 4th cycle: improvement/professionalisation.

Diplomas

The Diplôme of musical studies ( DEM ) is most musical Diplôme delivered by the academies with regional radiation French. The graduates can then make a cycle of improvement but these cycles do not make it possible to validate a diploma.

The Diploma of Musical Studies is recognized by the French Ministry of the Culture but is not approved like a diploma of Higher education. It thus does not have any value abroad. Only French establishments abilities to deliver post-graduate advanced degrees in music " performance" are the higher national Conservatoires of Paris and Lyon. Within the framework of the Processus of Bologna, some academies with regional radiation however made from the agreements with universities, which makes it possible to the students to be seen delivering diplomas of licenses and masters, mention performance. This atypical situation explains the fact that the young French musicians are the least quite graduate of Europe. Even small countries like the Swiss , the Belgium, the Sweden, the Austria, etc have each one more educational establishment superiors for the music than France. Countries like the Spain, the Italy, the the United Kingdom, and the Germany, have up to 10 times more establishments, delivering diplomas approved between vat + 3 and vat + 8. This very unfavorable situation for the students, particularly at a time when international professional mobility became essential, pushed many young French musicians to continue their studies abroad.

A reform is however in hand which aims to the creation of a professional national diploma higher of musician (DNSPM) delivered at the conclusion of a first cycle of three years higher education by the academies than regional radiation. Conventions between these establishments and the University will make it possible to the students to be seen delivering by the latter, in complement of the CNSPM, a general license, thus registering the course of the CRR in the first cycle of the LMD. The diplomas of the CNSMD would have, under the terms of this reform, and of a five years course, to see itself recognizing an equivalence with the rank of master.
