Academy of Metz
Learned society having its seat with Metz.
Created in 1756 at the Beautiful-Isle instigation of the marshal-duke of , officialized by Letters patent of Louis XV in July 1760, the royal Company of sciences and arts of Metz which existed of 1757 to 1792 was reconstituted in 1819 under the name of Société of the letters, sciences and arts.
Recognized public utility in 1828, it took the name of royal Academy, then imperial, and then of national Academy of Metz. It publishes reports of work since 1819; the series of its Mémoires starts in 1828 (irregular periodicity). It also publishes each year since 1970 a volume of the Lorraine Bibliographie .
It counted in 2001 36 regular members, 32 free associated members, of the corresponding members, the members of honor and the honorary members (all chosen by co-optation).
Its files former to the French revolution are deposited with the Public library of Metz. Some files are deposited with the municipal Files of Metz.
