Academy Charles-Cross-country race
the Academy Charles Cros is an association created in 1947 by a group of criticisms and specialists in the disc, among which Armand Panigel, Jose Bruyr, Antoine Goléa, Franck Ténot, Pierre Brive joined together around Roger Vincent, his founder, and placed under the presidency of the Musicologue Marc Pincherle.
It is made up of about fifty co-opted members, specialized in the fields of musical criticism, sound recording and the cultural life. It was created in the honor of Charles Cros (1842-1888), poet (friendly of Arthur Rimbaud and Verlaine), and also inventive autodidact, in particular one of the pioneers of sound recording.
The goals of the Academy are to constitute a collective of competences charged to be an intermediary between the public authorities which lay down the cultural policy and the whole of the professionals of the music and the disc.
Since 1948, the Academy decrees each year of the Grand Prix of the Disc which reward for original recorded musical works of quality in the field of the song, of the popular or erudite music. Several Grands Prix of the Disc of the Academy Charles Cros rewards for works in categories like: “song”, “classical music”, “jazz” etc a price also rewards the remarkable books for musicology. According to the technological developments, the prizes, decreed at the origins with 78 turns, are awarded nowadays to CD or DVD.
