The Academic institute of studies of the development (IUED) of Geneva (Swiss), founded in 1977, is recognized by the Federal council like an university institution with whole share with the end of the year 2002. In 2007 is created new the Institut of high international studies and the development (IHEID), together with the Academic institute of high international studies (IUHEI).

History

The Genevese Center for the formation of African frameworks is created by the State of Geneva in 1961 with the concern of offering to the African executives a reception center and of creating a place of reflection and research for the people interested in the questions of development.

This center becomes the African Institut of Geneva the following year then takes its current name in 1973. The IUED was born from the signature of a convention with the Université of Geneva in 1977. For this time, the institute has opened to the students of the whole world gradually.

Objectives

The IUED makes the promotion of an academic approach of the problems of development and finds a recognition on the scientific level in Switzerland like abroad. Its research and teaching programs are always restructured and diversified to take account of the increasing complexity of the concept of development. Close links are also woven with the international organizations based in Geneva and with institutions of research in Switzerland and Europe.
