Abyssin

The cat of race Abyssin , also called Bunny Cat ( cat rabbit ) is a race of cat with hair short originating in Asia.

Origins and history

The birthplace of Abyssin would be neither in Abyssinie, nor in Egypt, but in the South-East Asia . The first come to Europe would be Zula , a splendid male, reported of Abyssinie (lately called Ethiopia) by a certain marshal Sir Robert Napier in 1868. Zula coming from Abyssinie, one gave to this new race the name of the country from where it came. The " nouvel" Abyssin was then exposed to the Crystal De luxe hotel in London.

This race, fixed and improved by crossing it with the British Shorthair , is called Bunny-Cat (in French cat-rabbit), because of its peeling similar to that of hare.

In 1907, Abyssin arrives at the United States, but will become popular there only as from the years 1930. The French, as for them, discover it only in 1927.

The first club based on Abyssin names Abyssian Cat Club . A booklet also exists, Aby Boom , which recalls the varied activities of the stockbreeders of Abyssins.

Description

Head

Wedge-shaped with contours slightly rounded.

Ears

Alarms, large, and moderately directed; broad, widened at the base.

Eyes

Large, in the almond shape. They can be of three colors: however, amber or green

Neck

Enough long, gracious port.

Body

Length, gracious and flexible, with a muscular force good developed. The ideal type is a mixture between a body cobby and a slender corp. The proportion and general stability are more taken into account the size.

Legs

Long, right, fine, quite muscular. Small, oval, compact feet. The cat seems to be held on the point of the feet.

Tail

Deeply at the base, wish ardently enough and frayed drawn up in question mark.

Wrap

Texture: slightly longer on the backbone, the hair is shortened towards the Flancs, the legs and the head; it comprises a certain number of bands of ticking; the dress is brilliant, of fine, elastic texture with the touch; quite lying on the body, with an undercoat whose aspect should not be woolly nor gray.

Colors

Hare: the most current color. Hair made up of two bands of various colors called Ticking, russet-red orange (russet-red hot apricot) close from the skin, brown dark or black with the end; the more there are bands in a hair, the more the color is subtle. The belly is linked apricot, the throat and the neck is clearer (cream) but never white. The end of the tail, the bearings and the make-up are black, the marks of inch on the ears are brown dark or black; the leather of the nose is brick ringed of black.
Sorrel: the color of the couguar, very heat, burning, subtle; the bands known as yellow, of a dark orange apricot, contrast with intense russet-red bands. The end of the tail, the bearings, the marks of inch on the ears and the make-up are russet-red darker; the leather of the nose is brick ringed of brown russet-red.
Blue: a very refined color, with bands of a hot beige barred of other blue-gray. The end of the tail, the bearings, the marks of inch on the ears and the make-up are blue; the leather of the nose pink dark is ringed of gray.
Fawn: a delicate contrast of beiges, energy of rosy sand to the lilac lavender, dilution of chocolate. The end of the tail, the bearings, the marks of inch on the ears and the make-up are magniolia (pink with a point of orange; the leather of the nose pink is faded ringed lilac.
Red: russet-red genetics; the ticking is less perceptible because there is little difference between the orange basic one and the russet-red one of the ticking. The end of the tail and the marks of inch on the ears are russet-red; the leather of the nose and the bearings are pink.
Other colors: Red allows Tortie on the first 4 colors, all these colors also finding itself in Silver (basic coloring apricot white luminous is then silver plated).

Pathology réccurente at the abyssin

The abyssins are prone to certain genetic diseases whose most widespread Amyloïdose is the renal cat. It is well a Genetic disease which results in the progressive deposit of a substance Amyloïde in the organization, leading to a irreversible Impaired renal function. This pathology threatened the race during several years because there did not exist unfortunately screening test and the symptoms tardily appearing (after the 5 years àge) that made difficult the examination of the lines.

Character

Alert and sharp cat, Abyssin always seems moving. It is cepandant soft and adorable companions. Very affectionate, Abyssin is not less full with life and athletic, even turbulent. He adores the company and requires a maximum of love: a true happiness with four legs.
