Abya Yala is the name chosen in 1992 by the indigenous Nations of America to indicate the America instead of naming it according to Amerigo Vespucci.
The expression “ Abya Yala ” comes from the Cunas native-born people of Panama which uses this expression to name the two continents of America. The words mean “ground in its full maturity”. The indigenous leader Aymara, Takir Mamani, proposed that all native-born people of Americas name their grounds of origin thus, and use this denomination in their documents and their oral declarations, asserting that “to place foreign names on our cities, our cities and our continents is equivalent fixing our identity with the will of our invaders and their heirs. ”
