Abû `Inân Fâris Ben `Alî (rear RTL أبوعنانفارسبنعلي) was born in 1329. It succeeded his father Abû Al-Hassan Ben `Utman like sultan Mérinide in 1348. He died strangled by his vizier whereas he was failing on November 27th 1358.

History

He dared to describe himself as “commander of the believers” (to amir Al-mûminin). He had to eliminate one from his nephews who had seized the power with Fès.

After that it remade what his/her father had done. It made build the medersa which bears its name to Fès (المدرسةالبوعنانية Al-madrasa Al-abū `inānīya, the madrasa Bou Inaniya ). It took again Tlemcen, then Bougie (1352) and Tunis, but the revolts continued and the state Mérinide went weakening.
