Brusque is a city Brésil ienne of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located at a Latitude of 27° 05 ' 53" south and with a Longitude of 48° 55 ' 03" west, at an altitude of 36 meters. Its population was estimated at: 89254 inhabitants in 2006. It extends on 281 km ². It is in the Vallée of Rio Itajaí, also called " valley européenne".
History
The history of Abrupt begins with the arrival of 55 German immigrants , originating in the Grand-duché of Bade, in the south of Germany, in 1860. She is initially baptized Colônia Itajahy . The following years, of new groups of German colonists arrive in the municipality. The January 17th 1890, the city takes the name of Abrupt, in homage to Francisco Carlos de Araújo Brusque, president of the province of Santa Catarina at the time of the foundation of the colony. The city inherited the characteristics of its German colonizers on various levels: architectural, culinary, cultural, etc In 1875 arrived the first Italian immigrants and, later, the Polish. Polish introduced the techniques of weaving into the area and various factories were founded in the city.
Tourism and economy
The town of Abrupt, in the “European valley” ( Vale Europeu in Portuguese), with Santa Catarina, is an important tourist center for its natural wealths and architectural, characteristic inherited European colonization, like for the diversity and the quality of the offer in clothing and fabrics. Abrupt is in addition an important industrial center, mainly in the sectors metallurgical and textile.

The city comprises a club of Football evolving/moving into 1 division in the championship of Santa Catarina, the Brusque Futebol Clube.
