Abriès

Abriès is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Alpes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. It also forms part of the Regional natural park of Queyras.

Geography

Located in the Queyras at the Confluent of the Torrent S of the Guil and the Bouchet, with 30km of Guillestre, Abriès is a ski station alpine and of ski touring.

Localities and variations

Abriès counted many hamlets (the Russet-red one, Valpréveyre, Villard, Bertins, Tirail, Cross-country race, Montette, Malrif, Pré Roubaud, etc). Today only the hamlet of Russet-red is inhabited permanently, with approximately 80 inhabitants.

Communes bordering

By going up the valley of Guil, one finds before arriving at Abriès the commune of Aiguilles, then with beyond the commune of Ristolas from which the paths leave leading to the mount Viso which culminates with 3841m.

History

Abriès was probably a crossing point since the Antiquité, as the presence of Fibule would attest it on the commune of Ristolas to Assembled It. Its occupation dates certainly from the Moyen-âge.
