Abraham Janssens van Nuyssen (or Jansens ) is a Flemish painter baroque born with Antwerp (between 1567 and 1576) and died in 1632.
It remained a long time in Italy, oùJanssens, Abraham it adapted the manner of the artists of this country, and contributed strongly to the final fall of the school of Bruges which had dominated during all the XVIe century.
He was the pupil of Jan Snellinck and became Master in 1602 then, in 1607, the senior of the Master-painters. He died in his birthplace.
Until the advent of Paul Rubens, it could certainly be regarded as largest painter of history of his time. The style of the two artists was comparable but, in the precision of the drawing, Janssens its contemporary exceeded. If the composition of their painting and their manner of treating the artistic Nu were similar, Rubens had a greater control of the colors and a manner general, a greater freedom in its work.
Master of the Clearly-obscure , it liked that its painting is made strong contrasts of light and shade. Among his pupils, one can quote Gerald Seghers and Theodoor Rombouts.
One can see some of his works to the museum of Antwerp and the gallery of Vienna. Almost all the churches of Belgium have one of its tables, but its chiefs of work are in the church of the Carmelite friars in Antwerp.
