Abraham Geiger
Abraham Geiger (May 24th 1810 with Francfort-sur-le-Main - October 23rd 1874 with Berlin) is a Rabbin and German Théologien .
Rabbi with Wiesbaden, it receives in 1833 his Doctorat of the Université of Bonn. Partisan of a movement of reform of the Judaism, it rejects of them the elements Nationaliste S and seeks to underline the mission of the Juifs to diffuse the Monothéisme and the moral law. He shortens the book of Prière, allows the Instrumental music in the Synagog, removes the second days of rest and recommends the prayer in the vernacular language . However, he is opposed to the observance of the Shabbat the Sunday and refuses of officer before an assembly the faithful ones in rupture with the established Jewish community. In 1870, he becomes chief rabbi of the community of Berlin and director of new the Séminaire created for the scientific study of the Judaism. Prolific writer, his principal work is Urschrift und übersetzungen der Bibel ( Original and translation of the Bible ).
He is the father of the Historien Ludwig Geiger (1848-1919).
