Abraham Fischer

Abraham Fischer (1850 - 1913) was a lawyer and a Politician South-African which was single the Prime Minister for transitory the colony of the river Orange of 1907 with 1910.

It begins its professional path as a lawyer in the Colonie of the Cape in 1875.

In 1893, he becomes the vice-president of the Parliament (volksraad) of the free State of Orange then a member of the executive council in 1896.

During the War of Boers, Abraham Fischer comes to solicit of the assistance in Europe.

In 1903, it takes again its lawyer trade in the free Orange state, from now on called British colony of the Orange river.

Defender of the cause of the Boer S, Abraham Fischer takes part in May 1906 in the foundation of the “ Oranje Unie party ” of which he becomes the president.

In November 1907, the party gains the first legislative elections of the colony.

The November 27th 1907, Fisher is selected like Prime Minister for the colony of the Orange river. It remains with this function until its dissolution the May 10th 1910 at the time of the foundation of the Union of South Africa. It then joined the very new government of South Africa directed by Louis Botha.

Abraham Fischer is the grandfather of the activist anti Apartheid Bram Fischer.
