Above The Law
Above The Law is a group of Gangsta rap of Pomona in California, created in 1989 by the members Cold 187um, KMG the Illustrator, Go Mack and DJ Total K-Os.
Their first recording was on Ruthless Records of Eric “Eazy E” Wright. The independent label founded by Eazy-E which carried out NWA and much of other artists whom it produced.
Biography
Giving perfect after N.W.A. to the explosion of the Californian Gangsta rap, the members of Above The Law come from one suburbs to the east of Los Angeles named Ponoma. The leader Cold 187UM, so known under the name of Big Hucth (Gregory Hutchinson) joined KMG the Illustrator (Kevin Dulley), Go Mack (Arthur Goodman) and with DJ Total K-Os (Anthony Stewart). Mixing samples of funk the Seventies and the drunk person with instrumentations live (Big Hutch with studied the Jazz at the school), the group is located by Eazy-E which signs them without hesitating over its label Ruthless Records and makes some its protected and leaves their first album in 1990, " Livin' Like Hustlers" , an album filled of violence and sex as any album of Gangsta Rap.On finds N.W.A. on the piece " Last Song".
The album is by-product by Dr. DRE before his departure of N.W.A. the mixtape " The Vocally Pimpin' EP" leaves in 1991 follow-up their second album in 1993, " Black Life" Maffia;. On this album, undoubtedly their best, one finds appearances of Eazy-E, Kokane, MC Ren, Money B of DIGITAL Underground and 2Pac. Go Mack then decides to leave the group after this exit and Above The Law continues in trio for their last album at Ruthless in 1994, " Uncle Sam' S Curse" , on which are reproduced of great performances of KMG and an impressive presence of the Kokane singer. After the tragic disappearance of Eazy-E, Above The Law leaves Ruthless for Tommy Boy Records to which they leaves in 1996 " Time Will Reveal". Although the words move away a little the Gangsta tradition, Cold 187UM shows all its qualities of producer with tendency G-Funk.
The exit in 1998 of " Legends" in life the flame West Coast maintains but will be their last exit at Tommy Boy. They found then their own label, West World Records, and sign a deal with Street Solid Records to leave in 1999 " Forever: Rich Thugs". The same year Big Hutch leaves an album solo, " Executive Decisions". In 2000, BigHutch is recruited by Suge Knight to become the new producer and director musical at Death Row Records, the label becoming thus the new house of Above The Law. They records an album, " Sex Money & Music" , but which was without pushed back stop. They leave then Death Row in good terms (what is rare with this label), but Big Hutch had time to produce or (to reproduce) a few pieces of Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Tha Dogg Pound or of the pieces for the first album of Crooked I (see).
