The general Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana was a Head of State of the the Upper Volta (current Burkina Faso) born the January 31st 1916 with Zignara (province of the Sourou, Burkina Faso) and deceased the May 26th 2005.
Born in 1916 in Zignara, Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana makes its primary studies in the Upper Volta and with the elementary school higher Blanchot than the Senegal. Raise at the school of the African officers with Saint-Louis (Senegal), it is built-in the January 18th 1936 in the French Army like “Senegalese Tirailleur”. He climbs the various ranks of the French Army with which he fought in Indo-China and in Algérie. After the independence of the the Upper Volta the August 5th 1960, it is charged to create the national army, with the assistance of other officers the such colonel Yorian Gabriel. November 1st 1961, it is named chief of general staff of the armed forces.
After the popular rising of the January 3rd 1966 which brought to the resignation of the first president Maurice Yaméogo, he becomes president of the republic in the name of the army.
The June 14th 1970, it makes adopt a new constitution which specifies that “the loads and prerogatives of the Republic will be assumed by the oldest military personality in the rank more raised”, i.e. itself. Legislative elections are organized in December 1970.
The February 19th 1971, it names like Prime Minister Gerard Kango Ouédraogo.
Quarrels between the Prime Minister and the president of the National Assembly Joseph Ouédraogo involves a paralysis of the State. The February 8th 1974, Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana suspends the constitution. A government of national Revival is named, composed as a majority of soldiers, of which Saye Zerbo, appointed Foreign Minister.
The November 27th 1977, a new constitution is adopted, creating the third republic. In May 1978, of the presidential elections are organized. Put in ballot at the first turn, he is elected with the second turn with 56.27% of the voices vis-a-vis Macaire Ouédraogo.
In 1980, strikes, started by the trade union of the teachers spread. For two months, several sectors of the country are paralyzed. November 25th, a military coup d'etat is perpetrated by the Military committee of rectification for national progress (CMRPN). Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana is reversed and the colonel Saye Zerbo, former Foreign Minister becomes the Head of the State.
The January 3rd 1984, Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana is judged by a popular Court of the revolution. One reproaches him his management of 400 million francs CFA of special funds. He is discharged.
The May 26th 2005, Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana is deceased.
