Abou Rawash
Abou Rawash (or Abou Roash, Abu Roache) is a site of the ancient Egypt located at eight kilometers in the north of Cairo and occupied at two periods; one dated from the Ancient Empire, the other of the Roman epoch.
The site shelters:
- a necropolis of;
- a necropolis of;
- ruins of the Pyramid of Djédefrê;
- ruins of a raw brick pyramid.
Pyramid of Djédefrê
It on a escarpé calcareous rock dominating the grounds is cultivated of the Delta, that the Pharaon Djédefrê () selected to set up its pyramid. This pyramid, known under the name of el Ka' has , is most septentrional of all the Egyptian pyramids having remained until our days. Several reasons are advanced to explain the choice of this site:
- will to mark its attachment with, whose necropolis was already present on the site;
- will to benefit from the dominant situation of the plate of Abou Rawash to exceed the absolute height of the pyramid of its predecessor, Khéops, with a pyramid of 68 m (for an absolute height of 256 m compared with 206.7 m for that of Khéops).
Raw brick pyramid
With two kilometers in the east of the pyramid of Djédefrê is the ruins of raw an anonymous brick pyramid (of which the proportions were to be colossal) built on a rock core sheltering the crypt.
